The colour, texture, form and pattern have been developed in response to its garden setting. Naturally weathering Cor-Ten was selected to harmonise with the muted and natural colours of the garden. This proved successful at planning as oppose to what may have been a more traditional response of stone, which would have contrasted strongly against the landscape backdrop when viewed from across the valley.

The low-lying, Cor-Ten clad pool house sits in happy contrast with the formality of the historic house, allowing each to compliment the other. From distant views, the new pool house sits recessive within the wider garden landscape however, at closer inspection a corner-to-corner junction of slim-frame glazing opens up completely without a corner post. During the winter months, the pool house is a great space to sit snugly and enjoy the views, whilst in summer the glazing slides open to allow the pool house, garden terrace and pool itself to all become one seamless space.
