CaSA architects were appointed to design a workshop and utility extension to the existing Grade 2 listed house within the Uffington Conservation Area.

The new crafted and considered contemporary home workshop is linked to an existing 20th extension, re-roofed in slate to return the building to its previous historic form. On the southern side of the dwelling, a further 20th century extension has been replaced with a contemporary glass box. The building is modern and elegant in its appearance, yet retains strong references to traditional timber workshop buildings. Its form is clad in vertical blackened timber, configured with alternate depth boards to add articulation to the façade. The front entrance to the workshop is flanked by a large sliding timber screen which provides both privacy and security. An internal glass screen slides internally to provide wide access to the workshop as required.

The flat roof connecting the pitched volume to the original house has redefined the principle entrance from the parking area, and contains a functional entrance lobby. This frees up more usable space for the kitchen. Glass screens are overlaid with chunky external timber fins, providing both structure to the roof, and privacy to the kitchen beyond.
